Boost Your Mood with Easy Mediterranean Diet Recipes
Are you looking to boost your mood with a little food? Well, the Mediterranean diet may be the perfect solution for you. So read on to find out what's in my 6 “happy meal” boxes and discover what I eat to put me in a good mood all day long.
There’s six typical meal times in Spain: an early breakfast, a little mid- morning snack, a hefty late lunch, a light mid-afternoon snack, yet another little snack before dinner, and a light dinner around things out. But how do we eat all these meals and stay on a healthy track? Which nutrients are going to make us happier doing it?
I want to spend a minute discussing some really important nutritional keys to boosting your mood no matter what your meals are like.
Number one: keep your blood sugar level on an even keel and avoid sugar spikes and crashes. These can throw your stress hormones out of whack too and definitely have an impact on your mood.
Number two: eat enough healthy fats to keep your nervous system and brain well fed, especially omega-3, mono, and polyunsaturated fats. You might not think your brain relies on healthy fats, but it does. After all, the brain is almost 60% fat.
Number three: get in all those essential amino acids because they're the protein building blocks that help you balance your mood, especially ones like tryptophan that converts to a happy hormone serotonin.
Number four: finally, pack in plenty of anti-inflammatory antioxidants and stress-buster vitamins and minerals like B1, B6, B9, and B12, vitamin C, vitamin D, vitamin E magnesium, potassium, iron, zinc, and selenium.
It's a pretty long list but it's easy to convert into what we eat every day, so it's time to peek inside my personal Happy Meals and see what's on the menu!
